Confidence, Clarity, Continuity – 3 Cs That Make Business Growth Last
When you signed on to business ownership, you signed up to lead, even if you didn’t fully know what that would mean. It probably didn’t take you long to figure out you’d be wearing all the hats early on. Then, you’d need to learn to trust others with your business, let go, and delegate. You’d also face imposter syndrome time and again. The list goes on and on.
Excitement’s followed by loads of doubt which is followed by the thrill of growth and then almost immediately by an overwhelming fear of inadequacy. Sound familiar?
Business growth feels a lot like a roller coaster, doesn’t it?
Well-known speaker Darren Hardy wrote about this in his book The Entrepreneur’s Roller Coaster: “If you’re going to get better, you have to push yourself. If you push yourself, you’re going to fall. If you’re not falling, you’re not pushing. Falling is part of getting better.”
The truth is not many successful business leaders lack ambition or vision. They have both. Which is partly why they’re successful. What they do struggle with is confidence and clarity, both of which can lead to continuity (or lack thereof…). Long-term business viability and sustained growth depend on confidence and clarity.
Let’s take a closer look at these three Cs and what they mean for your business.
Confidence—A State of Mind
Merriam-Webster Dictionary says confidence is, “great faith in oneself or one’s abilities, a state of mind in which one is free from doubt.” Wouldn’t it be nice if you woke up every day in a state of mind that’s free from doubt?
Growth Academy Coaching & Training clients used to say things like, “I didn’t trust myself to make the right decisions,” or “I was second-guessing every move.”
So, how do you get from the second-guessing games to “great faith” in your own abilities as a business leader?
Confidence doesn’t just happen, of course. It’s built when you take steps you may be afraid to take, see that the results you feared didn’t happen, and then repeat the process. Even when the results are not fully what we’ve hoped for, they’re rarely what we’ve feared. So, as we continue to take new steps, our confidence grows.
Then one day, we wake up and realize we have more faith than we used to. We know better what we can do. And the sky’s the limit on where we can go.
Clarity—Knowing What Really Matters
What happens when you start developing confidence, but you’ve got no idea the direction to go? Clarity may be the missing ingredient. It’s what cuts through the noise to reveal your priorities, goals, and values.
If you don’t have clarity, it may be time to take a step back, revisit your goals, and determine the best actions that’ll help you reach them. Sometimes when clients come to Growth Academy, they’re all over the map. They’re working really hard, sometimes six and seven days a week, but they’re missing out on family time or not taking vacations to rest and recharge.
And they’re still not seeing the results they want. Which is frustrating to say the least.
Even more so is the fact that they have no idea what changes to make to get the results they want. So, they’re working hard without knowing what they’re working toward. Chasing every idea in their head without knowing how to figure out which ones are really worth chasing.
Clarity brings them back to what matters. It leads the way to what’s most important in business and life. It grounds thoughtful decisions and leads to intentional growth.
Continuity—Ongoing Impact
Develop confidence and clarity, and you’ve got a strong chance at a viable business that’s around for the long haul. Continuing to grow. Continuing to serve clients in ways that benefit them most. Continuing to impact lives and communities.
When you’ve got the confidence to lead your business, you’ll take action each and every day to keep it moving forward. With clarity directing the forward movement, you’re building the capacity for long-term growth. It isn’t a one-time leap after all. It’s sustained through intentional structure, constructive feedback, and re-alignment. That’s continuity.
At Growth Academy, we often talk with our clients about cultivating a growth mindset, developing effective business systems, and putting the support they need in place. Along the way, we offer structured encouragement that provides ongoing accountability. For some, that’s been the difference maker. When they have accountability in place, continuity is a natural result.
